Jesse's Childhood Bus

Growing up, Jesse’s family didn’t have much; they lived in five different states as he grew up and experienced homelessness.

Jesse began working for our community while still in college. He has worked as a Congressional staffer, for the Oregon Legislature, in the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office, on the President’s leadership team at Portland State University, and for four presidential campaigns.

During 2020, Jesse was a top aide to Senator Bernie Sanders during the presidential campaign, traveling the nation with the Senator. He felt the call to come home and serve here in Portland, his adopted hometown of over 30 years. Jesse lives in SE Portland with his partner, Andrea and Penny the dog.

Find Your District

In 2022 Portlanders passed a new form of government, which changed elections from at-large to voting for members of the city council geographically. For nearly every person we talk to the first question is “What district am I in?

Jesse Cornett and Bernie Sanders

Real leadership that puts experience and empathy into action.

I came to Portland nearly 30 years ago and, like so many of us, fell in love with the city I’ve called home ever since. After a career as an advocate, activist, and business owner– including working as the top aide to Bernie Sanders in 2020– I felt the call to run for office myself.

I believe that Portland can be a place where every person, no matter what part of the city they live in, can have their voice heard. I want to put my background in practical policy-making and public service to work so that we can have real, proactive leadership that sees beyond the current moment to create a future we can believe in together.
